Villa-Lobos, 1958: Fugue No. 1 in C major, BWV 846 (transcribed for Cellos by Villa-Lobos)

Heitor Villa-Lobos conducts the Violincello Society in this 1958 recording of Bach's Fugue in C major, BWB 846, from Book 1 of the Well Tempered Clavier. Villa-Lobos transcribed this work (as well as several others from Book 1 of the WTC) for what the LP jacket describes as an "orchestra of cellos." I created this video from the LP you can see above, issued in 1959 on the Everest label, serial number LPBR-6024.
